Composite Decking vs Traditional Decking
Timber decking is still popular due to the lower initial costs, but composite decking is fast proving to be the more sustainable product. Timber decking has a shorter lifespan by far, and requires lots of regular maintenance and upkeep such as sanding and staining.
For all our projects, we only recommend Trex composite decking, the No 1 leading brand in composite decking (we are approved installers). Their products are manufactured to the highest quality and come with a 25-50 year warranty including a wide range styles, colours and variations to give either a wood grain effect or contemporary look.
When designing any decking, the importance of having a well-constructed and supported substructure/frame is key. With the development of HDPE and aluminium framing, these products have a far longer life span. These are especially useful when used around rooftop gardens, balconies, and swimming pools etc, which are exposed to damp conditions. Timber frame is still the most popular, however certain keys factors need to be factored in. The use of UC4 treated timber, the correct fixings and Protection Tape are used, we recommended Carpenters Mate lifetime guarantee fixings and Trex Protect Tape, resealing all cuts ends of the timber, along with substantial air flow ensures you are doing the everything to give the maximum lifespan to the timber.
